Modesty’s Scenic Lookout @ #ScavengerHunt 31

One of the things I’ve always enjoyed about travelling is visiting the local beauty spots or vantage points. Locations that may be famous, or unique, even iconic, to their specific city or town . . . or perhaps just places that we stumble upon of such natural scenery and views that always stay in the memory.

Modesty Savage Memorial 1And this, famous look-out point, is one such place. Iconic for Hubby, but for me just a place which . . . wind, rain or shine . . . I always love to return to whenever we visit.

Modesty Ablaze Savage MemorialAnd, of course, since discovering the lovely Curvaceous Dee’s Scavenger Hunt site I was even more excited about returning and asking Hubby to take some “quite different” photographs from the sort we’d taken on our previous visits here!

Modesty Ablaze Rangitoto IslandIt is always a very busy spot . . . even if it doesn’t look that way in these pictures . . . so we had to spend a long time between each photograph to make sure we didn’t offend or upset other visitors.

Modesty Ablaze City SkylineBut it is such a lovely spot that I could never tire of sitting and savouring its relaxing peace and tranquility . . . and the simply wonderful views of the city and the harbour.

I’m so happy that I am able to share this magical place for my latest Scavenger Hunt post.

Modesty beneath the Street Lights @ #ScavengerHunt 30

Yesterday (Saturday) was mid-summers day here in the United Kingdom . . . the longest day of the year! It was actually after 9 p.m. before it got dark and it was such a lovely warm evening that Hubby and I decided to take a relaxing stroll.

Modesty Ablaze Streetlights Scavenger Hunt

Of course, I just couldn’t resist pausing once or twice to pose beneath the pretty street lights, even though there were still lots of people about obviously enjoying the balmy evening just like we were . . . well, possibly not exactly like we were!!!

Modesty Ablaze Lamplight Scavenger Hunt

I had such fun that I posted one of these pictures at this week’s Sinful Sunday, but am still hoping this will qualify for the “Street Lights” category at Curvaceous Dee’s Scavenger Hunt site.

I have also cast some light on lots of my previous Scavenger Posts at my Scavenger Hunt Listing page.

Modesty at the Botanical Gardens . . . #scavengerhunt 29

ModestyBotanicalGardens1Whenever we journey to the southern hemisphere, I always ask Hubby to take me back to Botanical Gardens in the Domain. I loved it when he took me there on our first visit over 30 years ago . . . and it has had a special place in my heart ever since.

ModestyBotanic2Situated almost right in the centre of the city, it is a wonderful haven of colour, peace and tranquility.

ModestyBotanic6The two small hot-houses are almost like miniature versions of the ones in Greenwich Park here in London.

ModestyBotanic5And the couple behind me must have been enjoying exploring the pathways too, as they seemed to be following us as we wandered around and around.

ModestyBotanic7We decided to pause for a while near the statues and they eventually moved on . . . although it still felt like I was being watched from somewhere.

ModestyBotanic8I especially like the Fernery . . . it feels almost like being lost in a tropical rain-forest . . . though I was still conscious of occasional footsteps on the gravel somewhere behind me.

ModestyFernery4But it is such a lovely feeling in there . . . warm and yet damp and moist at the same time . . . just the way I like it !!!

I enjoyed it so much that I’m hoping the lovely Dee will allow this as a “Botanical Garden” category at her wonderfully fun Curvaceous Dee’s Scavenger Hunt site.

Modesty at the Tennis Courts . . . #scavengerhunt 26

It definitely feels like summer is on the way . . . and it just wouldn’t be an English summer without the Championships now would it?

ModestyTennisCourtsGateAnd as Wimbledon is just over a week away, I thought I should get out on the court today for an intense practise session.

ModestyTennisBottomI’m normally a slow starter . . . so have to think a lot about my positioning on court.

ModestyTennisSmashBut I soon felt happier . . . and more confident . . . after returning a few serves from my coach.

ModestyTennisGripHe did start criticising my grip though . . . something he usually doesn’t complain about!

ModestyTennisBallsAnd he is certainly usually always happy with my ball handling skills . . .

ModestyTennisRacquetSqueeze. . . so much so that he became confused and suddenly started talking about “my breast stroke”.

I reminded him that breast strokes are an altogether different sport . . . and that perhaps we’d have to think about that for a future location at Curvaceous Dee’s Scavenger Hunt site.

Modesty’s Castle Wedding . . . #scavengerhunt 25

We’ve just returned from a wonderful long weekend away on the South Coast. The weather was absolutely lovely and I was delighted to discover that our hotel was just a short walk away from a restored cliff-top Castle.

Modesty Ablaze Castle Front Door

It seemed uncannily quiet as we wandered up to the front door . . . and even as we decided to explore the side entrances . . .

Modesty Ablaze Castle side door. . . and wander around the outside gardens. We were passed by other couples (in the background below) enjoying the sunshine . . .

ModestyCastleGardensBut it still seemed reasonably quiet, so we decided to head back to the main courtyard.

As we approached we could hear lovely music . . . what sounded like a string quartet playing from behind the windows overlooking the small courtyard and miniature maze . . .

ModestyCastleCourtyardOneAs I stood by the sun-dial preparing for my next pose, the music suddenly became louder as the doors behind me burst open and streams of people poured out onto the courtyard.

ModestyCastleCourtyardIt turns out there was a Wedding Reception being held inside and they were obviously making their way around to the annex of the Castle for dinner . . . so we were able to relax again in the knowledge that no-one was actually heading in our direction.

“Just one more pose by the sign!” Hubby suggested. “Ok then” I agreed . . .

ModestyCastleBridalPath. . . only to be suddenly confronted by the Bride, Page-boys and official photographer suddenly appearing on the path immediately behind Hubby as he fiddled with his camera. Luckily I was able to regain my composure . . . and my modesty . . . smiling and offering a welcoming “oh I love your dress” to the bride as they briskly walked past.

ModestyCastleFinal“You should have been listening out for footsteps!” I hissed, and chastised Hubby, as they disappeared off to join the rest of their wedding party.

But it was fun, and such a lovely setting, that I thought I should share it with you here at Curvaceous Dee’s Scavenger Hunt site.

Modesty Ablaze parking issues . . . #scavengerhunt 24

Despite being so pleased with our Rental Car (from my previous #scavengerhunt 23) we still had the normal issues of finding somewhere to park in our visits to the down-town central city.

Modesty Ablaze Car Park Scavenger HuntSo we decided it was probably safest to use one of the Multi-Storey Car Parks . . . especially as they are quite cheap compared to what we would normally have to pay at home in London!

Modesty Ablaze Scavenger Hunt LiftsIt was very busy on this occasion though and we had to park on one of the upper floors . . . which, of course, meant using the lifts on our return. But even for the short journey from the ground floor I felt they could certainly have benefitted from air-conditioning!!!

Modesty Ablaze Scavenger Hunt LiftsIt was actually still quite warm even when we got back to the car . . . so I just had to have the window down as we left the car park and headed out onto the motorway.

Modesty Ablaze Car Park Scavenger HuntBut I did have to constantly remind my driver to concentrate on the road ahead . . . and to keep his hands completely on the steering wheel!!!

Modesty Ablaze Car Park Scavenger HuntSo it was quite a relief to end our journey safe and sound . . .

Modesty Ablaze Car Park Scavenger HuntSo much so that I thought I would share the experience here at the lovely Curvaceous Dee’s Scavenger Hunt site.

Modesty Ablaze driven to distraction @ #scavengerhunt 23

I always find hiring a rental car quite daunting when one is abroad.

Modesty Ablaze Car Rental 1

But I soon felt more at ease when I discovered that the number plate ended with my two favourite numbers!!!

Modesty Ablaze Rental Car 2And I was quickly able to make myself comfortable with the look and feel . . . of my new mode of transport whilst . . .

Modesty Ablaze Car Rentals. . . I waited patiently for my chauffeur to return with all the paperwork.

And I was so pleased with the handling, and smooth and steady ride, that I thought I would share it here with everyone at the lovely Curvaceous Dee’s Scavenger Hunt site.

Modesty Ablaze at The British Tattoo Exhibition . . . #scavengerhunt 22

This weekend I discovered that The Great British Tattoo Show Exhibition was being held right on our doorstep here in London.

So, of course, I just couldn’t resist exploring . . . it was a long, and eventful day, and I’ve only just got home!!!

Modesty at The Great British Tattoo Show Doors

The event security staff didn’t seem keen on us taking our own photographs . . . so naturally I had to be quite discreet!!!

Modesty Ablaze at The Great British Tattoo Show

But, anyway, as I was there I couldn’t fail but respond to Hubby’s dare that I book a spot with one of the many talented tattoo artists offering show-only special discounts!

Modesty Ablaze's Tattoo at The Great British Tattoo Show

I still wasn’t quite sure . . . so thought I would start with something quite subtle and easily hidden to all but my closest of friends . . . oh, including of course my friends at the lovely Curvaceous Dee’s Scavenger Hunt site.

Modesty Ablaze on Match Day . . . #scavengerhunt 20

There is just something about Stadiums isn’t there? Something quite primal . . . arousing and stimulating!

Modesty Ablaze at the Football StadiumAnd though I’m not a huge football fan, I know that on Match Day some people start arriving hours before kick-off . . .

Modesty Ablaze at the Football Stadium. . . and get very excited, wide-mouthed even, reminiscing about matches and players from the past. And even I know more than a little bit about Semen . . . oh, apologies for my spelling!!!

Modesty Ablaze at the Football StadiumAnd yes The Cock End is definitely my end . . . oops, my spell-checker seems to have a mind of it’s own in all this Match Day excitement.

Modesty Ablaze at the Football StadiumAnd speaking of excitement . . . and va-va-voom . . . I’ve always just loved a foreign accent!!!

Modesty Ablaze at the Football StadiumAnyway, as I say, fans are starting to arrive early . . . apparently today’s match is quite an important one . . . so must dash to see if I can get tickets.

Modesty Ablaze at the Football StadiumUnfortunately the only available tickets were well above my budget! So for my ambition of goal post photos, I had to move to a near-by training ground.

So despite my slight disappointment, I thought I would share the match day photos that I did manage here . . . and at the lovely Curvaceous Dee’s Scavenger Hunt site.

Modesty Ablaze in the Tunnels . . . #scavengerhunt 19

Modesty Ablaze in the TunnelsThe “City of Sails” could also be known as the “city of  volcano’s”  . . . there are 53 extinct volcano’s  across the city’s volcanic field.

Modesty Ablaze in the TunnelsAnd one of them . . . just across the harbour from the city centre . . . is home to the most amazing tunnels.

Modesty Ablaze in the TunnelsEasily accessible from the walkways below, it was wonderfully cooling to wander through the myriad of tunnels running through the hillside.

Modesty Ablaze in the TunnelsOf course I just couldn’t resist pausing at the occasional “windows” looking out onto the harbour below.

Modesty Ablaze in the TunnelsOr trying to make sense of the decades of inscriptions and messages of love . . . and lust . . . from decades of visitors who had so obviously investigated these tunnels before Hubby and I.

Modesty Ablaze in the TunnelsAnd, speaking of other visitors, I think I can hear footsteps beginning to descend the steps behind me!

But despite the occasional interruptions . . . it really was a wonderfully peaceful exploration and adventure . . . calming and Sinful at the same time!!!

So much so that I thought I would share it here with you
. . . and at Curvaceous Dee’s Scavenger Hunt site.
