“It’s not the steam that bothers me, it’s more that sulphury smell” I said to Hubby as we stopped at the entrance to the Thermal Park. “That’s because it’s geothermal and the hot steam rises up from underground to supply power”,
he replied. “You’ll get used to it in a few minutes”.
“Oh goodness, it’s all fenced off . . . I don’t remember there being fences the last time we were here!!!” I exclaimed as we reached the first stop.
“Well that was 35 years ago” he said. “And anyway, I seem to recall that it opens-up more further on up the valley”.
“I certainly hope so because it look’s like some sort of space-station now”.
“Do you mean we have to walk in between all those hot pipes and things?”
I asked worringly, as we continued on round the next corner.
“Oh, ok, I do remember this part” I said to Hubby as we reached the next rest stop. “Well come on then, you lead the way!”
Then. . . just as we were about to set-off . . . two large tourist buses pulled into the car-park behind us. Did that curtail our explorations?
Well, just watch this space!!!
But, to give you an idea of the view as it was in 1982, I thought I would include the photo below from my #polaroidspast archives.
Modesty Ablaze – Geo-Thermal Park 1982
Jade’s Scavenger Hunt didn’t exist back then of course, but I’m hoping that my return visit last week, will qualify for inclusion as a Geo-Thermal Site location.
But, in the meantime I’m sure you will discover lots more Space Station stories at this week’s Wicked Wednesday from pushing the button below!
I also have lots of other Scavenger Hunt explorations at
my Scavenger Listings page . . . and now over 100 different locations on
my Scavenger Slideshow page as well!!!
