Water Wheel #wickedwednesday

“God it’s hot . . . let’s stop for a cool drink!” I exclaimed to Hubby as we drove slowly along the winding coast road. “Look, that look’s like a bar ahead . . .  before the next bend. By the sea wall, where that big coach is pulling out”.

“No, it looks more like a tourist stop to me” Hubby said after we’d pulled into the car park and wandered around to look at the view, “that’s why that coach was pulling out as we arrived.”

“It says here,” Hubby excitedly explained, having found it listed in his ‘Places of local interest’ pocket-book, “that it was built in the 1830’s to use the sea water to grind wheat and barley and make beer.”

“Well, I could certainly do with a cool beer right now!” I replied. “Come on, let’s go inside and order!”

“Apparently” he rambled-on, “the water comes in through swallow-holes and disappears down into underground caves and eventually flows out into a lake all the way over on the other side of the island.”

“Well I want to do some swallowing of my own right now.” I interrupted him in mid-sentence. “And NO, I don’t mean THAT sort of swallowing! It’s far too hot for that . . . I mean swallowing a cold beer!!!”

“And anyway, look , there’s another coach pulling into the car park now.”

“Quickly, put that book away. Let’s go inside before we lose our place at the bar!”

Hubby kept prattling on about the wonders of this wheel though,
so I’m hoping that Jade, may add it to her
